The 2013 US Championship of the J&P Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show saw winning bikes from Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit and Atlanta compete with the local heroes from Indianapolis. The Championship presented 54 outstanding customs competing for $26,000 in cash and prizes. The local Southside Harley-Davidson provided a four-bike vintage showcase to celebrate the racing heritage of Indianapolis.

To celebrate the US Championship, Powersports firms jumped in to provide awards including Harley-Davidson with a Screamin Eagle 120R powerplant, Avon Tires with 2 sets of tires, Yoshimura with a slip-on and gift certificate as well as JDA providing gift certificates. HelmetLok and Wizard Products kicked down products for all the competitors too.
FreeStyle Class
Kyle Shorey of Shadetree Fabrications took Indy by storm. His FreeStyle class win at the US Championship of the Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show in Indianapolis with Speedmetal has brought in $12,500 in total winnings to date. T
Kyle has won each show he has entered and has taken the top prize in Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago and now Indianapolis. Speedmetal began life as a customer’s Saxon Crown chopper. The wheels, engine, brakes and tranny were salvaged from the donor bike. A key feature of the bike is the prototype springer, which has gone through extensive on-road testing and will be available to the public later this year. With his win in Indy, Kyle is now the leading money winner in the series with $12,500.

MOD Harley Class
Adams Karns turned his shop-worn ’01 Sportster into a primo new school board tracker that rocks the 2013 US Championship of the J&P Ultimate Builder. The sled features a Twisted Choppers Rear, Custom Gas Tank, highly modified DNA springer, powder coated engine and Karns Kustoms exhaust. Adam wins a Harley 120R engine from Harley and $3,000 cash plus contributing prizes.

Performance Custom Class
Break Lite Motorsports brought out Boosted Ego, there 2009 Hayabusa and took the win in the Performance Custom class. It boasts a 360mm rear wheel and C and S Customs extended 360 single sided swingarm, tricy air ride suspension with a modified front suspension to give the bike a correct ride height.
To get the performance just right, the bike features twin-bottle nitrous, Velocity stage 2.5 turbo kit, GTX Turbo, undercut transmission and lock up clutch.

Retro MOD Class
Will Ramsey of Faith Forgotten Choppers brought Dead at 19, a highly modified 1981 Harley-Davidson FXW. It started as a basket, Willcut the cast neck off and redesigned and built the entire frame with American made DOM tubing and American cast iron. Nearly all components were hand fabricated in-house. The gas tank and oil tank were hammered from flat sheet. The wheels are HDW aluminum. The paint was chosen to represent the paint of a modern new-school BMX bike. Paint was shot by Brian and Emeric Howell of RGW with striping by Danny Taylor. This bike is a rider and when delivered to the owner in Southern California, it will be ridden daily.

Nicole Kelleher’s custom bike was built by Break Lite Motorsports and took first place in MOD Street.

Additional Awards
Mike McFadden won the Show Dog Award sponsored by Rocking K Custom Leather for his promotion at the show. Tom Hedrick won the People’s Choice Award with Rings, a 1987 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail.


On hand for the Championship and to show some love to the competitors were Cyclesource Magazine and IronWorks Magazine. They awarded feature articles to Paul Anderson with his 1946 WLA and Jay Hart with his 2012 / 1977 Harley-Davidson FL, respectively.
