MITCHELL, S.D. — Before the motorcycles roll into Sturgis by the hundreds of thousands, riders have one more stop to make.
The 19th Annual Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party returns to downtown Mitchell, South Dakota, on Thursday, August 6, bringing together motorcycles, live music, stunt shows, custom bikes, vendors, and plenty of small-town hospitality for one of the Rally season’s favorite kickoff events.
The day starts at Klock Werks, where the Mitchell-based company will open its doors to visitors for shop tours and an inside look at one of the most respected names in the V-twin industry. Guests are even invited to attend the company’s morning meeting before joining the annual ride from the shop to downtown Mitchell at 4:45 p.m. All riders are welcome to participate.

Once the parade reaches Main Street, the party is on.
Downtown Mitchell will be packed with food vendors, motorcycles, custom cars, live entertainment, and activities for the entire family. The evening’s concert features Turtle Peak Band before country artist Redferrin, known for hits like Jack and Diet Coke and Just Like Johnny, takes the stage in front of the iconic Corn Palace.
Motorcycle fans will have plenty to keep them busy throughout the evening, including the Shifter Crew Bike Show, the 301 Rodz Car Show, performances from the One Wheel Revolution V-Twin Stunt Team, Cowboy Fast Draw exhibitions by the Powderhorn Ranch Regulators, and appearances from magician and comedian Gary Michaels.

Families aren’t left out either. A dedicated Kids Zone will feature Strider Bikes, inflatables, face painting, motorcycle games, and a mechanical bull. Klock Werks will also be raising money for the Strider Bikes Foundation, helping provide balance bikes to students at Volga Schools.

For nearly two decades, the Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party has become the unofficial launch of Rally week, giving riders a chance to reconnect with friends before making the short ride west to Sturgis.
If you’re heading to the Black Hills early, Mitchell is well worth adding to your route.
Admission is free, and festivities run from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Mitchell.
