At some point in any one of our lives we could all use a helping hand at times. For many of us our pride gets in the way of asking for that help from others.
Even though we realize that we have nothing to worry about by doing so.
A friend and fellow bike builder and someone who is a part of the industry is in need of some help from others.
Over the weekend, Hugh’s Handbuilt suffered a massive flood. Mind you this was not a flood from normal circumstances. This was due to a failure in a Fire Protection Sprinkler line. He was all packed up and ready to head out to The Ramble Tamble until he got a call at 2:45 am from the fire department. After he arrived at his shop to see the massive water line just bursting water everywhere. One of the very old pipes burst and the fire department could not find the shut off valve for 40 mins.
The water filled the ceiling of his office until the office caved as he watched and couldn’t do anything. As he
watched parts and packages literally float out of the office he realized that everything was gone.
Everything at this point is a 100% loss. This is damage for 5” of water.
“It filled the office ceiling with water until it couldn’t handle the weight, and collapsed – ruining all of our office computers, printers, about 50% of our inventory and all of my baby girl (Rebecca) stuff that I keep at the shop. “You see, without my office and without the things for her, I cannot work at the shop. I bring my baby girl to the shop everyday, and keep her safe and sound in the office as I work. “![]()
“We have always been a small operation, and as such – I do Daddy Daycare each day while my wife goes to work.
The office is a total loss, we are hoping to strip all of the drywall this week and insulation, and start the rebuilding process. We could use building materials or funds to help get those as well.”
”We lost a ton of inventory, as well as all of our packing/shipping supplies and other stuff that comes with running our business. “
“To make matters worse, we tried to get flood insurance about a year ago, but since we are in the flood plain, it was astronomically high. Fast forward to today, and now the river is rising and rising FAST! “ Literally flood waters from a river. ![]()
