EBR is now an official player in the world motorcycle market. In case you are wondering the EBR stands for Erik Buell Racing and while we had all considered this to only be a racing venture for Erik since the decision to close his company under Harley-Davidson, it is in fact a new motorcycle company that seems to be picking up where Buell Motorcycles left off.
Our man on the scene at the Indianapolis Dealer Show has confirmed the presence of Erik Buell and a new prototype motorcycle under the banner EBR. This venture is an exploration to gauge the reaction to their new (for sale to the public) motorcycle the 1190RS. “I just wasn’t sure what people would think,” said Buell. “We don’t have big focus groups or anything, we just do what we do.” Well, the response has been overwhelming. The new bikes are branded with an 1190RS badge and are apparently using a similar Rotax power train as the one that appeared in the last Buell Motorcycle release. Everything is so new that they didn’t even have dealer pamphlets on hand, just wicked cool bikes with an explanation of what’s to come from EBR.
As part of their race strategy, EBR has signed veteran road racer Geoff Mays in a three year deal backed by Amsoil. This is the actual bike he will be racing in the Daytona 200 next month, a very sexy machine.
In recent news there has also been an announcement to the fact that S&S, the performance manufacturer based in Viola, WI, has also been doing performance testing on behalf of the new company. “We want to become America’s premier sportbike,” said Erik. So the continuing refinement of their product is standard.
A quick visit to their website at http://www.erikbuellracing.com/ yielded three other race prepared motorcycles, all very hot looking bikes that excite this long time Buell fan. The price range goes from 16 to 45k. It will be very interesting to see how this goes for Erik and company; I for one wish him all the best.
