Getting it Done Right in the “Steel City”

I’d like to take a minute to thank the great folks at Steel City Harley Davidson in Washington, PA for all of the outstanding service they’ve given my wife and I over the last several months. I recently purchased my second scooter from them and, without question, everyone there: from sales, to service, to the delivery driver is all top notch!

My first experience with Steel City was last May at their 5th Anniversary Celebration. Cycle Source had a booth set up on their lot and Chris invited me to come down to help register folks for the Best Bike (by class) Contest, which was judged by the event’s crowd with the awards and trophies then given out by Cycle Source. It was a terrific event, so much so, in fact, that I brought my 11-year-old nephew along to give him the opportunity to be introduced to the sport of motorcycling. Needless to say, ever since the event, he’s been hooked. Right on!

The first bike I got from Steel City ended up being a Christmas present from my wife. Since I cut my teeth riding sport bikes, but am now a dyed-in-the-wool American motorcycle guy, I’ve become a big fan of the late model Buell super-sports. Well, late this fall, I was surfing the local dealer websites, as I’m apt to do, and found a 2009 Buell 1125R with under 1000 miles on the clock. It turns out the scoot was owned by a local collector with quite a few bikes and had traded it in on some other collectable he’d ordered. Although I never expected her to act on it, I showed the bike to my wife and told her how much I liked it and how it was definitely something I’d like to own someday.

My wife, being the absolute saint that she is, called up Chris and asked him if he would help her check out the bike, since she, herself, doesn’t ride, and if he knew anyone at Steel City who could help her with the paperwork involved in buying the bike and with getting the bike to our house around Christmas. Chris gave my wife a name of a friend of his at Steel City, and from that point forward, everything was seamless. The folks at Steel City answered all of my wife’s questions, gave her a great deal on the bike, arranged for it’s delivery, and Chris even went with her the day she did all the paperwork to look over the Buell, even though it was flawless as the dealership promised.

IMG_3951 Even though Steel City is quite a drive from our home, the service department offered to pick up my other bike, a 2006 Harley Davidson Road Glide, when they delivered the Buell, so that the Road Glide would be inspected and fully serviced when the springtime riding season came around. I took them up on the offer and just a few days after they picked it up, the ole Road Glide was delivered back to my driveway, inspected, serviced, washed and they had even added a battery tender pigtail, which they had done to the Buell as well, so that I could keep the batteries on both bikes charged throughout the winter months.

Needless to say, my wife and I are completely amazed by the treatment we’ve received from Steel City. In all the car and motorcycle transactions we’ve had prior, whether purchases, trades, or for service, rarely have we found folks that have taken such good care of us and made us feel completely at ease about doing business with their establishment.

So that brings us up to about two weeks ago. As I’ve mentioned before, my wife is terrific and, as I’ll freely admit to anyone, she’s way too good for me. That said; she set out this spring to right a wrong that occurred just about a year ago. It was then, while shopping for a Harley Davidson, Dyna, Street Bob, that the folks at another dealer “convinced” me that what I really wanted, rather than the Dyna, was a full bagger. Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I have absolutely nothing against baggers whatsoever, however; the Road Glide that I ended up with just wasn’t necessarily the right bike for me given the type of riding I do and the type of bikes I enjoy.

Knowing all of this, my wife put in a call to Steel City to see if they could help. Without a hitch and without me finding out, Steel City sent their delivery driver out to pick up my Road Glide one afternoon while we were having some work done to our house. With all of the activity going on, I didn’t even notice. Once the bike was at Steel City, their sales department was able to appraise my bike and put a deal together on the exact Street Bob I’d wanted all along, all over the phone with my wife later that afternoon. Finally, under the pretense of “picking out some new gear,” my wife and I drove down to Steel City where my new Dyna was parked, in the showroom with a bow on it. What an awesome surprise!

The whole time I was there that day, they made me feel like I was their only customer even though the shop was booming with activity. I guess that, more than anything, is what separates Steel City from the rest. No matter what’s going on, be it an event, a pre-owned bike purchase, a motorcycle delivery, a service pickup, or even being surprised by your wife with the gift of a new Street Bob, whatever the case may be, the good people at Steel City Harley Davidson always make you feel as if you have their undivided attention and you’re the only customer in the store.

So, if you happen to be in the market for a new or pre-owned scooter, and you are looking for folks that’ll treat you a lot better than you might expect, give Steel City Harley Davidson a call (724) 225-7020 or check them out online at http://www.steelcitymotorcycles.com/. You won’t be disappointed.

Oh yeah, and tell ‘em Dudley sent ya…
