Why Not America?

Oh Canada.......

Having just returned from a quick trip to Canada with Buzzy, on his way to West Africa, I had a startling revelation. I noticed in Canada how proud they are of their country. Every home, office and car proudly displays the maple leaf flag of their country. So taken by this was I that I bought one and put it on my bike for the ride home where I expected to buy an American flag for the other side of the bike. Once I crossed the border however, I was surprised to find that I couldn’t buy an American flag like this…. Anywhere.Oh there were places that sold little stickers, pins, magnets and I even found a few department stores that had a small offering of standard size flags for your yard but many, including big box stores, didn’t have any at all. I checked truck stops along the way, exited the expressway to go into towns to look in little and big stores alike but I could not buy this same flag at any of them. When I asked people why that was the answer usually given was that it is still to far away from 4th of July. BULLSHIT!!!!!

So here’s my question, are we now embarrassed to be American? Why does it take a special holiday to get us around to displaying the flag of our country and last but not least what can we do to change that? This may seem like a little bit of a rant but do this little experiment in your own neighborhood and you tell me. I took a short drive around my neighborhood and counted the number of houses that had Old Glory up and without official buildings they totaled 19. That’s out of hundreds of homes man, what the hell is going on here? I just feel like we are loosing a sense of who we are and wanted to hear from you on it. Let me know.
