I got my hands dirty doing offroad racing fabrication with friends, then eventually professionally. I got my mind dirty when I studied Industrial Design / Product Design at University. I built my first motorcycle (an XS650) for my Senior Thesis. Like most folks, I couldn’t find work after I graduated, and about 3 years ago I started Hugh’s HandBuilt – kinda on a whim really. It’s been full steam ahead ever since. I love what I do and wouldn’t change a thing…

What’s your favorite song or band on your iPod/iPhone right now?

I don’t even know how to put music on my iPhone. I don’t even have a custom ringtone.

If you could choose your last meal, what would it consist of?

It would have to be my grandmother’s fried chicken. She made the best!

What do you consider your worst bad habit?

Oh man, I have so many. It would have to be chewing on stuff. I could take out a greasy bolt, chew on it and take the grease right off. I could chew the chrome off a bumper I think.

If you were forced to get a new occupation and only had the following choices, which would you pick and why: Funeral Director – Cop – Politician

None of them are honest. Those are all awful jobs. I would probably commit suicide.

What’s another hobby you have that is not motorcycle related?

Oh shit, this is really not biker tough at all. But…I just really enjoy flowers: looking at flowers, photographing flowers and going to gardens. There is so much inspiration in nature. It is one of nature’s most expressive forms. There isn’t anything that I can think of that I would die if I didn’t have.

If you could hang out with someone famous for one day, who would it be?

Dan from Pandemonium Custom Choppers ‘cause we never have had a chance to hang out for a day, or Kurt Cobain. What would be your ideal vacation? Two weeks is all I ask with no emails, no connection to the outside digital world and a never-ending full tank of gas in my motorcycle. Oh, and no breakdowns.

What’s one thing that you want to do before you die?

My parents both died when I was young. So, all I want is to see my daughter graduate college, get married and become successful. I want to live long enough to see her be truly happy. What’s something that most people don’t know about you? Other than all the random shit you just asked me, I am so open and up front. I am just honest and I don’t hide anything from anyone, period.
