Venture Heat Saves the Daytona Ride

The weather in Daytona Beach during Bike Week is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’ll get. I did get a pretty good hint when leaving Columbia, SC as it was 30 degrees and snowing.

The week before Bike Week it had been 80 degrees. So our initial plan was camping on the coast, on a private island and then at the back of Bling’s Cycle in Daytona.

Venture Heat Daytona Ride – The night before the trip I installed a set of leather gauntlet gloves from Venture Heat. In about 15 minutes I bolted the fused power cord directly to the bike’s battery and then plugged the gloves in. Within a few seconds you could feel warmth coursing through the palm.

The gloves come with 3 heat settings, selected by pressing a button on each glove. There’s a different color light for each level, which is nice because you can tell the heat setting by rotating your wrist.

The leather gloves are fabricated with good size gauntlet which will fit over the jacket sleeve to keep out cold air and moisture.

Once we mounted up and headed for the coast the wind chill was around 10 degrees. The gloves knock off the cold. They aren’t an oven, but they do keep you comfortable. And warm hands means you can brake, clutch and modulate the throttle with ease.

The interior of the leather glove is made of 100% polyester which is also great for warmth and comfort.

The gloves utilize a layer of Thinsulate, a 3M brand of thermal insulation made of synthetic fiber. It’s sandwiched in between the polyester interior and the leather exterior.

The gaps between fibers not only reduce heat flow, but also allow moisture to escape. Thinsulate is considered “the warmest thin apparel insulation” available.

Between the polyester interior and the 3M insulation there’s a Dintex membrane which makes these gloves totally waterproof and breathable.

Willies Tropical Tattoo Chopper Time Show

The leather Venture Heat gloves are thin, warm and good looking.

As you know, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. In order to stay warm we doubled our Tequila intake. Our first night we camped inside the house of Rich Worley of American Biker. The second night we stayed in a hotel in Savannah GA. On the third night we rolled into a state park next to the ocean in St. Augustine Florida. By then our Tequila was running low and we replenished our supplies in order to sleep through the night. On Wendesday night we slept at Willie’s Tropical Tattoo and got up and out before the Chopper Time show kicked off.
