Tony Stewarts Scooter to be Auctioned off!

Darrell Gwynn Foundation Set to Auction Tony Stewart Scooter & VIP NASCAR Experience at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Opening Night Gala, April 10

Scooter donated by Stewart was used during 2013 NASCAR season after injuring his leg in a racing accident

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation will auction a scooter donated by NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Opening Night Gala on April 10. The scooter was used by Stewart during the 2013 NASCAR season after he sustained a leg injury in a racing accident. The winning bidder of the scooter will also receive a VIP NASCAR Experience to the Coke Zero 400 on July 3-5, 2014 that includes round-trip airfare, three-night hotel stay, garage passes and two seats in Tony Stewart’s pit box. Stewart will also match the first $50,000 on the winning bid with all proceeds benefiting the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to SUPPORT people with paralysis and PREVENT spinal cord injuries.

Stewart personally donated the scooter, complete with a special paint scheme that mimics the No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Mobil 1 Chevrolet SS he drives in the elite NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. Stewart signed the scooter, as well as a 24” x 36” picture of him on the scooter. But in addition to the scooter, Stewart has created an overall package that will accompany the scooter’s winning bid. It includes a race-worn Bass Pro Shops firesuit signed by Stewart and a trip for two people to be his guests at the July 3-5 Coke Zero 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Daytona International Speedway. Round-trip airfare, a three-night hotel stay and garage passes will all be covered by Stewart, and two reserved seats will be available on the No. 14 team’s pit box for the winners to watch the Coke Zero 400, which Stewart has won four times (2005, 2006, 2009 and 2012).

To make sure the scooter and accompanying prize package is a strong fundraiser for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Stewart will personally match the first $50,000 bid and donate it to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.

“We thought long and hard about what we should do with the scooter when we were finished with it,” Stewart said. “After working with Darrell Gwynn and his foundation for so many years, I know there are a lot of people who aren’t as fortunate, and that a scooter or wheelchair is a way of life. The scooter I used after my accident is top of the line, and it will serve someone very well. I want it to go to a deserving person, but I also want it to help others. Auctioning it off at Barrett-Jackson, where all the money will go to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, allows Darrell and his group to serve its mission by providing support for people living with paralysis.”

“I’m putting my money where my mouth is too by personally matching the first $50,000 bid on the scooter and giving it to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. The scooter and the money will be well served by Darrell and his team, who have donated wheelchairs to hundreds of individuals through its National Wheelchair Donation Program. I’m impressed with everything Darrell has done for others and I’m very proud to contribute to his foundation’s mission.”

“I can’t thank Tony for this amazingly generous gesture and donation,” said Darrell Gwynn. “It comes at a crucial time as the foundation needs support to continue its mission and help so many that need the gift of mobility. We’re hopeful the auction of this scooter will make a huge impact on our mission.”
