“SuperMoon” Saturday’s Full Moon is Biggest of 2012

So, I know that this is really kind of out there but I thought what the hell it is cool! So Be sure to take a walk outside this weekend and check out the moon. This full moon is what they are calling the “SuperMoon” due to the fact that it is going to be the biggest of 2012.

On Saturday (May 5) at 11:35 p.m. EDT, the moon will officially turn full. And only 25 minutes later the moon will also arrive at perigee, its closest approach to Earth — a distance of 221,802 miles (356,955 kilometers) away.

The result will be a 16 percent brighter-than-average full moon accompanied by unusually high and low tides this weekend and into the new week.

Also this month the Eta Aquarid meteor shower, which peaks on May 6th and an annular solar eclipse that will be seen in the western United States. Venus, Saturn and Mars are part of the planetary spectacle in the night sky.
