Ultimate Builder Completes the California Swing
December 7-9th is the perfect storm for the SOCAL custom bike enthusiast as the Ultimate Builder, David Mann and Mooneyes all fire up on the same weekend. The J&P Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show rolled into Long Beach, CA on December 7th with 43 outstanding custom sleds. Guys from LA, San Diego, NORCAL and Vegas came to compete for bragging rights and a piece of the $7,000 in prize money and $500+ in prizes.
Ultimate Builder: FreeStyle Class
Shaun Ruddy of Chop Deluxe wheeled Retro Racer into the 2012 SOCAL Ultimate Builder , everyone new that his sled was in contention for the win. And Shaun pulled it off by the slimmest of margins against 2nd place finisher Pala Duro. Shaun’s bike features hand machined brass pieces throughout, 127” Ultima EL Bruto, Panhead front rocker boxes and custom front end.

Ultimate Builder: MOD Harley Class
The California King of Mod Harley – Bruce Boldon wins SOCAL and NORCAL editions of Ultimate Builder in the MOD Harley class with Wicked Beauty, making him the MOD Harley King. His bike is a 2003 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy. Boldon went for the big bore kit, Screamin’ Eagle cams and diamond cut heads. If the bike isn’t chromed then its powder coated. Ridewright wheels are engraved and diamond cut. The frame is chromed and engraved.

Ultimate Builder: Performance Custom Class
The purpose-built race bikes got traction at the Ultimate Builder with Paul Morris and his racer, Street Pro, taking the win by a wheel against Ray Wheeler and his turbocharged Bonneville racer. Mooris’ bike sports a Gangster frame, full MSD ignition, carbon fiber body work and rear wheel. Chassis is custom built with a stretched swingarm and slammed suspension.

Ultimate Builder: Retro MOD Class
Paul Ponkow of Bones Legacy built this wild child called Satyricon. The bike has a 53deg rake, 8” stretch and a 30” over rigid front end. Special features include a hand-ade oil tank, sissy bar, seat, exhaust, handlebars, foot controls and brake linkage. It’s a beautiful 1964 Triumph TR-6 with a 650cc mil that was balanced and blue printed with polished rods, coated valves and an SRM blow off valve.

You Never Know Who Will Show Up
During the photo shoot with Ashley and Rick Bray a number of the guys standing around decided that they needed a snap with Ashley so they stormed the set. You can see Rick wasn’t so keen as his pregnant wife was looking on.
