Sitting on the SU of the Ticket is my grandfathers bible from World Way II. The cover is a heavy brass and the soldiers were instructed to keep it in their left shirt pocket in the event that maybe it would stop a bullet from hitting them in the heart. It seems that the more I think about the old boy, especially anytime the topic of those who served comes up, the more respect I have for the man he was. I remember as I got older he would finally start to tell me some of the stories of his time in the service, it was shocking then as much as the stories my young brothers share with me today as they come back from our nations most recent conflicts. To say thank you for their service is too small a gesture for the horrors and sacrifice these men and women have endured. On this day, this one day a year in the midst of the riding and parties, the fellowship and good times we share in this great land of freedom and opportunity, please take a minute and hang a flag in their honor. It’s a small token but trust me, every veteran that passes your home on this day, everyone in your neighborhood who has lost a loved one or those who currently wait for their brave man or woman to come home will appreciate it more than you could possibly know.
Now go have a great day, be safe and hug a Vet!
