So it’s been quite a while since we’ve had time to work on “Board To Death” and with both the St. Louis Cycle Showcase and Mama Tried coming up, time is running out. I hate not doing things on this bike myself but in my hour of need I had to call in some experts. First and foremost was Steve (Dr.) Peffer from Steel City Choppers. Steve has been my saving grace in all things graphic forever now and my brother since we first met. He came into the shop tonight to lay down some ideas for how were gonna dress this thing out and then promptly whisked away the sheet metal so I could get to finishing some of the other details.
As it sits I’m really diggin the stance of this bike but there’s a ton of work left to go. I wanted the standard tank shift like the old Board Trackers on this thing and it was only possible with the help of Ed Fish at my local machine shop. Ed took some time over the holiday break and made my idea a sound and solid piece of equipment. You can see some of the pics below of the cool ass solution we came up with and the plans to use the big ass FLH style pedals for the foot clutch and the brake. It all started with the mechanical brake pass through that we cut off the old frame section when we hardtailed the Ironhead.
Steve also helped me locate the taillight, an old torpedo style light and plate holder that compliments the Wassel fender. By the end of the night my other partner in crime, Zach Conway of Diamonds N Rust stopped in to help me inventory a needed parts list and go over the operations still needed to get this thing ready. It’s amazing how a simple plan can help get you to settle down and organize your thoughts enough to do the work. Stay tuned to see if we make this deadline…. It’s gonna be close.
