DEI sponsored Gray Ghost readies for upcoming Bonneville AMA National Land Speed Trials

Avon Lake, OH (August 13, 2014)…The DEI supported Gray Ghost Team of Jim “Jimbo” Fischer (owner, rider), Warner Riley (crew chief), and Mike Witt (engine tuner) recently enjoyed some needed seat time in preparation for the upcoming AMA BUB National Speed Trials on the salt flats Bonneville.

This year the team is back with a partially faired, S&S Powered 1650 Harley Davidson with an S&S Superstock motor. This configuration puts them in the APS-PF 1650 class.

First stop was the ECTA Wilmington mile in Delaware, OH, where the team worked out some initial gearing and setup. They also got in some valuable seat time, adjusting to the new body work that was added this year.

Then it was off to Maine, to run in the Loring Main Land Speed Event hosted by LTA. Despite some nasty cross winds Jimbo managed to push both the bike and himself, setting further class records with a 177.985 for the mile, and a 185.119 for the mile & half. These were also Jimbo’s best times to date on the S&S Superstock Sportster.

“We feel like we have a real contender to grab more records this year at Bonneville,” said engine tuner Mike Witt. “The team has worked all winter and it’s fun to see everything come together.”

“It’s a great experience to help out the Gray Ghost Team,” added DEI Powersports Manager Brian VanKoevering. “Working together, we have utilized some of our heat control solutions that let them push the bike right to the limit.”

Next stop, the hallowed grounds of the Bonneville salt flats, August 23-28th.
