The Good Ol’ Days Raceway captured the essence of Sturgis that has been forgotten by many over the past decade. Thanks to the Broken Spoke Saloon on the County Line Road and Cycle Source Magazine who helped launch the inaugural year of the Good Ol’ Days Raceway, spirited competition was alive and well at this year’s Black Hills Classic. The Raceway posses a ¼ mile dirt oval track and housed an infield motor cross-TT track. All the action could be seen for miles under the shining lights and once those lights went up, it was on.
From old motorcycles such as a ’49 Panhead and the’47 Knuckle tearing up the track to a new 2009 HD there were no limits or boundaries. At any given time during the day you would witness fellow campers race their motorcycles for a few hours and at night a dozen of the Limpnickie Lot members and friends would gear up and proceeded to have endless dirt bike races. No rules, just good clean racing. Onlookers stood merrily by, without the facilities that a race venue might have like bleachers or a concession stand, and just marveled at people, once again, having fun on motorcycles.
Due to an over whelming response there are already talks for an expansion of The Good Ol’ Days Raceway for 2010 including the possibility of Speedway Races, a chance to learn flat track skills from Chris Carr and more vintage action. Mark it on your calendar and see you next year!
