The surprisingly successful sales of the BAKER Torquebox and the BAKER Function-Formed™ design that it sports led the designers at BAKER Drivetrain to apply this styling to a more down-to-earth, premium BAKER Overdrive 6-Speed Evo transmission.
The Torquebox’s prime directive was to have the ability to handle more torque than any other transmission and the retail price was not a consideration in its development, so it was though only a fringe customer would invest in it. Although it features an impressive amount of performance-enhancing engineering finesse atop its strength, one of the most popular features was the unique aesthetics of the Function-Formed™ case design. A surprising amount of builders were buying the pricey Torquebox for only the visual merit instead of its superior strength and shifting finesse. So, the Powerbox was born to cater to builders who don’t require investing in an obscene level of torque capacity.
The Powerbox is still plenty strong. It’s a BAKER Drivetrain transmission. In fact, with the 6061-T651 billet aluminum case design it will be sturdier than those with mere cast cases. In addition, it still features BAKER Drivetrain’s refined, premium, and unstoppable American gears inside for dependability you can trust. The Powerbox for Evo Softail brings style and rigidity to a new dimension.
In conclusion, the Powerbox is for those who don’t need the torque capacity of the renowned Torquebox, but still want the look and quality. The Powerbox delivers the stiffness and performance of a BAKER Function-Formed case, but at a lower cost. It will handle power better than most any transmission out there – just not the Torquebox.
The BAKER Powerbox is scheduled to be available late summer/early Fall 2008.
