The Route: Following 250 Years of the American Story

From Ellis Island to the Pacific Ocean

When we first announced America 250: Two Wheels, One Nation, we said this wasn’t just another motorcycle trip.

It’s a journey through the story of America.

In 2026, as our nation celebrates its 250th Anniversary, Chris and Heather Callen will set out aboard a new 2026 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Limited to explore some of the most iconic landmarks in American history. From the shores of New York Harbor to the edge of the Pacific Ocean, each stop on this journey represents a chapter in the story of our nation.

This isn’t necessarily the shortest route across America.

It’s the route that tells the story best.

Stop One: Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island

New York, New York

The story of America begins with those who came here seeking freedom, opportunity, and a better life.

Standing beneath Lady Liberty and walking the halls of Ellis Island, we’ll honor the millions of immigrants whose dreams helped build this nation. For generations, these landmarks represented hope and the promise of a new beginning.

As we begin our journey, there may be no better place to remember that America has always been a nation built by people willing to take a chance on something greater.

Stop Two: Liberty Bell

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

If Ellis Island tells the story of those who came to America, the Liberty Bell tells the story of why they came.

Few symbols are more closely associated with American freedom than the Liberty Bell. It was here, in Philadelphia, that the ideas of independence and self-government helped shape a new nation.

As we stand where America’s story as an independent nation truly began, we’ll reflect on the freedoms that continue to define us 250 years later.

Stop Three: Washington Monument

Washington, D.C.

Rising above the National Mall, the Washington Monument stands as a tribute to the nation’s first president and the ideals that helped establish the United States.

This stop reminds us that leadership, sacrifice, and vision were required to transform a collection of colonies into a nation. It is a fitting place to reflect on the challenges overcome and the possibilities that still lie ahead.

Stop Four: Gateway Arch

St. Louis, Missouri

Known as the Gateway to the West, the Arch symbolizes one of the defining characteristics of America: exploration.

For generations, pioneers, settlers, and adventurers moved westward in search of opportunity and discovery. St. Louis became the launching point for that movement, opening the door to an expanding nation.

For us, it marks the moment when the journey truly turns west.

Stop Five: Route 66 Starting Point

Chicago, Illinois

No road captures the spirit of American freedom quite like Route 66.

Beginning in downtown Chicago, the Mother Road became a symbol of adventure, possibility, and the open highway. For countless Americans, Route 66 represented a path toward opportunity, reinvention, and discovery.

For motorcyclists, it remains one of the most legendary roads in the world.

Stop Six: Harley-Davidson World Headquarters

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Few brands are woven into the fabric of American motorcycling like Harley-Davidson.

At the company’s world headquarters, we’ll celebrate more than a motorcycle manufacturer. We’ll celebrate a company that helped shape motorcycle culture, American manufacturing, and the spirit of the open road for more than a century.

As we prepare for the longest stretch of our journey, there is no better place to pay tribute to the machine carrying us across America.

Stop Seven: Mount Rushmore

Keystone, South Dakota

Carved into the granite of the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore stands as one of America’s most recognizable monuments.

Featuring Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln, the memorial honors leadership, perseverance, and the vision required to guide a growing nation through its most defining moments.

It is a reminder that America has always been a work in progress built by those willing to dream big.

Stop Eight: Yellowstone National Park

Wyoming, Montana & Idaho

Long before national parks existed anywhere else in the world, America made the decision to preserve some of its greatest natural treasures for future generations.

Yellowstone became the world’s first national park and remains one of the most breathtaking places on earth. Here, the story of America is written not by people or monuments, but by the land itself.

This stop celebrates preservation, stewardship, and the incredible natural beauty that belongs to every American.

Stop Nine: Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco, California

Spanning the entrance to San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge remains one of the greatest engineering achievements of the modern era.

More than a bridge, it has become a symbol of innovation, ambition, and the belief that seemingly impossible challenges can be overcome through determination and ingenuity.

As we approach the Pacific, it stands as a reminder of what Americans can accomplish when they dare to dream.

Stop Ten: Hollywood Sign

Los Angeles, California

For over a century, Hollywood has represented imagination, creativity, and the power of storytelling.

Perched high above Los Angeles, the Hollywood Sign symbolizes America’s influence on entertainment and culture around the globe. It serves as a fitting destination for a documentary project dedicated to telling the story of America through the eyes of the people who live it.

Stop Eleven: Santa Monica Pier

Santa Monica, California

Santa Monica, USA – August 22, 2011: Santa Monica Pier entrance leading to the Pacific Park, a family amusement park with a large Ferris wheel. The Pier is a famous 100 year old landmark.

Every great road has an ending.

For Route 66 travelers, that ending is the Santa Monica Pier.

After thousands of miles, countless stories, and unforgettable experiences, we’ll roll to the edge of the Pacific Ocean where the Mother Road finally meets the sea.

It’s the perfect place to bring this journey to a close.

Or perhaps, the perfect place to begin the next adventure.

More Than a Motorcycle Trip

While these landmarks help tell the story of America, the true story will be found between the stops.

On the back roads.

In the small towns.

At gas stations, diners, campgrounds, dealerships, and roadside attractions.

In conversations with veterans, builders, business owners, families, and fellow travelers.

Because while monuments tell us where we’ve been, people remind us who we are.

At a time when it often feels like we’re focused on the things that divide us, America 250: Two Wheels, One Nation is about rediscovering the things that bring us together.

Freedom.

Adventure.

Exploration.

And the simple joy of seeing this incredible country from the seat of a motorcycle.
