Winston Salem, NC, April 12, 2008-AHDRA brings it’s 3rd round of the Screamin’ Eagle National Championship Series to Gateway Int’l Raceway on April 19th & 20th.
Fans can expect to see several hundred racers from near and far competing in the sixteen classes of competition offered by the All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA). One of the feature attractions at any AHDRA event is what many have called- “The Kings of the Sport”- Nitro Harleys! And at nearly 800 horsepower and speeds reaching 225mph in just over 6 seconds- the title is well deserved.
There will be plenty of them on the track at Gateway Int’l Raceway- including local Top Fueler, Mark Conner of St. Louis, MO.
Conner’s year got off to an exciting start in Screamin’ Eagle Top Fuel competition at AHDRA’s season opener in Gainesville, FL. Riding on the 186 cubic inch beast for Edge Motorsports (under the ownership of Rich Papiese), Conner blazed through the field with a top event speed of 224mph to capture the win and the early lead in the national standings.
In Conner’s 2nd outing at AHDRA’s recent Phoenix, AZ event, he didn’t fare as well with a red light in round #1 that shifted his lead to #2 in the standings. With only 3 points separating him from new leader, Steve Dorn of Oregon, Conner stands a nice shot at recapturing his lead while competing next weekend on his hometown track.
Race fans can hear what Conner has to say about the upcoming Gypsy Rendezvous Nationals when he participates as a special guest on Monday night radio show, “Gateway to Motorsports” in the St. Louis market. The show is broadcast on 1380AM, but can be tuned in on line by visiting www.team1380.net. The show begins at 7:30pm and will be hosted by Gateway International Raceway’s very own, Jason Dukes.
