So you may have heard about all the radical happenings on the national newsstands these days and of course the nay sayers claim that magazines, print media, has run its course. In spite of many chains doing a great job and working with publishers to make a stronger, more efficient system, there are some that are directly to blame for piss poor sales. Even in the way the magazines are displayed. Imagine, while looking at the above photo, if Snickers Bars or Wriggly’s gum products were treated the same way. There would be a lawsuit so huge it would put this convenience store chain out of business. Still there is nothing stopping them from killing us with this kind of mismanagement.
That’s not even the half of the problems today but here’s a start…… Someone in Convenient Store management please take a look at your magazine racks and have them organized once in a while……. That might be a good idea when someone is looking for a product that they may want to buy. Christ, even the cigarettes are displayed better, the bullshit bracelets and trinkets that sell for less money per item than these magazines have a better shot at grabbing the consumers attention. When you consider that the retailer gets the lion share of the money from the sales of a magazine, it makes you wonder exactly how far up their asses their own heads are. It goes madly on, and they claim magazines have seen their day. Ok chucky, maybe if the magazine could see the light of day to begin with you might have different results but instead you squeeze down your racks, demand point of sale bonuses and a higher discount and to top it all off, once every three months you have the balls to charge an RDA – “Retail Display Allowance” that’s the money to manage the DISPLAY of the magazines AT RETAIL….
