I’m walking around The Broken Spoke Saloon down in Daytona, and I got to talking to this cat about how interesting the “thing” he came rolling in on was. It was a Beemer with a fold down ramp for wheelchair access. You rolled in, the ramp folded up, and you rode away all while in your chair. He said, “You should see my FXR!” I thought how sentimental; here is a man who even though he will never ride it again, still has his FXR back home. We met the next day and got to know each other on our Wounded Warrior Project ride; this is a great guy!

Fast forward a few months, nearly 3000 miles away, and I see this FXR with a sidecar and I’m blown away by the condition of this bike. It is perfect, and I’ve never before seen anything like it in my life! I just keep going around it in circles when suddenly I hear my name. I turn around and here comes Billy from Daytona racing down the ramp in his chair shouting, “What do you think of my baby?” So much for keeping the FXR and not riding it! He explained it all to me and it was simple. One day he was fine, got a virus of some sort and found himself in a chair for the rest of his life. Nothing has changed for Billy except for his ability to walk, and he wasn’t going to let that get in his way either. After 9 years down in Hawaii watching bikes roll by, he just couldn’t take it. Now, 19 years later, his ever evolving FXR is laid out on the pages of Cycle Source for you all!
