Got a local hub cab store? Well, that’s where I picked up these old 16” Beauty Rings. Back in the day they were used on your car or truck to snazz up your wheels. For this month’s tech I’m gonna show you how to install them on your bike.

This is a set of 16” Beauty Rings, they are made of stainless steel and are in pretty good shape for being 40 plus years old. I have installed these on Harley spoked rims and also mag wheels, both Harley and metric.

The fingers on the back sides of the beauty rings are not enough to hold them on most rims. (Don’t need to no hula-hoop action while we are rippin’ the strip…. Ya know!) So, with some basic hand tools and a couple of hours’ time you can have a set mounted up.

I start by applying some blue Dykem on the back side of each beauty ring.

Then I flip the sucker over and rub in on my work bench top. This will give you a center line for laying out the holes (below) – that need to be drilled to mount the rings to each other.

I then drill at least 3 to 4 holes in each ring to mount them together. Pay attention here that the holes you drill are not right on top of a spoke and are evenly spaced.

I use 8/32 threaded rod and acorn nuts to hold the two rings to each other over the rim.

Once one ring is drilled, and I am happy with the spacing I transfer that drill pattern to the other ring and drill it out.

For rims with side valve stems the hole in the beauty rings usually fits. Rims with a center valve stem, I use a valve stem extension that can be picked up at your local Napa Auto Parts store.

Now pop on your Beauty rings, install your mounting hardware (use thread locker) and install your wheel on your bike.
