There has been a recent deterioration of the Bonneville Salt Flats due to salt brine removal from potash mining. A Coalition has been formed to preserve and replenish the salt flats. This coalition “Save the Salt” has also teamed up with SEMA, they are trying to help as much as possible. Council members expected to review Myrtle Beach noise limits Posted: 02.07.2011 at 8:58 AM The Myrtle Beach city council will take a second look at noise limits on Tuesday after Horry County hotel owners and motorcycle groups sued over the 2008 ordinance. The city lowered the maximum vehicle noise to 89 decibels from 99, as part of an effort to cut down on issues relating to two annual motorcycle rallies. State and local police plan to crack down on drivers whose vehicles make too much noise, when changes to a state road noise law go into effect July 12. That means if a motorcycle’s exhaust system has been modified so it is louder than when it first was installed, a driver is in violation. “This applies to all vehicles, so if someone is issued a ticket for operating a motor vehicle with excessive exhaust noise, it’s a $137 fine,” said Lt. Brian Scott, commander of the state police traffic safety unit.
