There are only a few things in life that I enjoy as much as a good blast of coffee. A few of those are not fit for print; one that I can mention here is breathing air. I drink an unusual amount of coffee in a day. I suppose it’s part of my Type A personality, but in spite of the volume, I will not settle for any old mud thrown in a cup. Having come up in the northeast and with a dozen or so Dunkin Donuts in the immediate area, I love good coffee and am at a place where a bad batch can ruin my day. I think it was one time when we published a picture of me sitting at my desk with a hundred empty Styrofoam coffee cups around me that I heard about Robert Camardo of Garage Leathers and his own Article By: Chris Callen home brew from Garage Coffee Company called Road Rage. Now it might seem odd that one of the top leather saddlebag craftsmen in the country would make his own brand of brew unless you too are addicted to the junk. Like me, Robert loves a good mug but was tired of all the overnight new coffee shop trends and didn’t like any of the flavors they came up with. So, just like his saddlebag company, he went to work on making his own. Along with his friend and partner, Rich Dorsi, he spent six months learning to roast beans, trying different blends and temperature settings until he achieved what was for the two men, the best batch they could make.

What they decided was that this new creation was not only the best blend of coffee that they had ever tasted but after asking some friends to take a taste, it could actually stand up against the best on the market. They decided to design a logo for it and see what would happen. That was back in the middle of last year and they have just started to get into their first grocery stores. Road Rage is even being sold in Williamsburg, NY in a place called Bagel Smith right near the subway. Hey, there isn’t a tougher crowd of critics in the world for coffee than a bunch of New York City commuters. Being a friend of the magazine, Robert sent us a bag of the coffee to try out and whether it’s in the office or in the shop, I start and end every day with a fresh pot. In keeping with tradition, I replaced my brand with Road Rage and took it for a ride. Now I can’t sit here like one of the critics from Food Network and tell you a bunch of stuff like it had earthy tones, intense floral notes and a syrupy mouthfeel but I can simply say that it is a rich, bold blend and I’m on my third bag of it. I would put it right up there with the trendy hipster coffee shop blends that might rhyme with “cartrucks.” This is actually funny since Robert has been designing what his coffee shops will look like for the first few franchisees. Their moto: NO, there is no f’n wireless and NO, you cannot get a Frappuccino here. God I love it already; regular Joe for the regular Joe. You can find out more information about Robert’s perfect coffee creation “Road Rage” and his decaf version “Anger Management” on his Website at www.garagecoffeecompany. com or look for him at some of the larger motorcycle rallies this year and maybe you can get a cup of this brew. Tell him the Source sent you.
