Racing Schedule Announced For AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days

Mini road racing added to the program

AMA Pro Racing GNC Mile, Springfield, IL 5-24-2015
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Racers and fans of old motorcycles will have three days of action-packed racing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, July 8-10, during the American Motorcyclist Association’s AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.

The event will feature vintage and post-vintage competition in hare scrambles, motocross, dirt-track, trials and road racing.

“In many ways, vintage competition represents the best of the sport,” said AMA Chief Operations Officer Jeff Massey. “It’s all about fun, low-pressure racing, having good times and making memories on old motorcycles. It doesn’t get any better than that and you’d be hard pressed to find as much vintage racing, in as many classes and disciplines, as what we have at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days.”

The motocross, trials, hare scrambles and vintage road racing events are part of the AMA Vintage Grand Championship, which crowns national champions in these disciplines, while the half-mile dirt track, at nearby Ashland County Fairgrounds, offers one round of the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship Series.

An exciting new addition this year is mini road racing in the upper paddock. Operated by the AMA-chartered Ohio Mini Roadracing League, the program includes practice on Friday and two full days of racing on Saturday and Sunday. While the mini road racing is not part of the national championship program, the top riders in each class will be recognized based on the cumulative points earned during both days of competition.

“Club members love going to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days every year. The bikes, people and atmosphere are like nothing else,” said OMRL President Kent Klawon. “In addition to those of us who already compete on full-sized bikes on the main road course, we’re thrilled to bring mini road racing to the upper paddock. Hopefully, we can encourage some new riders to join our ranks — all while helping to raise funds for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.”

Pre-entry for the motocross, trials, hare scrambles, dirt track and vintage road racing will be available later in April at www.americanmotorcyclist.com.

Pre-registration for the OMRL program on the upper paddock will be available soon at www.ohiominiroadracingleague.com. Riders are asked to pre-register online and complete their signup at the track. Detailed class descriptions and a mini road racing FAQ are provided on the OMRL website.

More details about AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 8-10, will be announced soon. Keep an eye on www.amavintagemotorcycledays.com and www.facebook.com/AMAVintageMotorcycleDays/.

A fundraiser for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days features classic motorcycles of all makes and styles, and honors the riders who made them famous.

In addition to the racing program, the event features North America’s largest motorcycle swap meet with parts, bikes and memorabilia from all eras. The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Bike Show will feature examples of some of history’s most beloved motorcycles. Stunt shows and demo rides of current production bikes will keep attendees entertained, while seminars on numerous topics by noted motorcycling experts will keep them informed.
