In an unprecedented move by Harley-Davidson, they have partnered with the City of Sturgis S.D. for the next 75 years to sponsor Sturgis Bike Week. What most people do not know is that up until last year (this is public record) the City made next to nothing on the rally when all was said and done because of the massive expense that they incur. Two years ago they hired a top-notch sponsorship company to help build revenue and create partnership opportunities like this one with Harley-Davidson. It makes sense, after all Sturgis is and always has been a predominantly Harley rally. For the last two years Indian has made a come back and had a major presence in downtown Sturgis and Harley really had no answer because they were not an official sponsor of the rally. I assure you that this year Harley will be every where in downtown Sturgis. It seems they will be building a plaza off of main street to house music and I suspect to try to keep people on Main Street longer, instead of heading to the campgrounds by 5 p.m. and never seeing Main Street at night. I remember just a scant decade or more ago when you COULD NOT WALK on main street at night because it was so busy. There was never a chance to find parking spot and it was the place to be. That mood has shifted to the campgrounds but really the heart of Sturgis is Main Street. It will be great to see the revitalization efforts and all that it brings to the City.
