yearlong anniversary party began at the Harley Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 30th. Willy G. Davidson, along with his son Bill, addressed an excited crowd from the second floor of the museum as several thousand bikers filled the street below. They were all anticipating the 2013 model launch, and it was about to happen in a grand fashion. Just then, the sea of people made way for a parade of the 110th year anniversary motorcycles that passed through the crowd and ended up on the street in front of the museum. Two of the riders pulled into the middle of the street and took turns smoking their tires while writing “110 H-D” on the concrete as the crowd went nuts. After the words were written, it was time to pop the tires on those brand new machines. The whole demonstration was done in good taste and fashion. Then, Willy G started the giant clock that is mounted on the museum wall above the street and it began counting down the next 365 days. After that, the world’s largest bike night was in full swing as the band started rocking the stage with some fine rock-a-billy music. There was several of the new models parked in the street for everyone to drool over.

This celebration is to commemorate 110 years of production of the world’s most famous motorcycles. There will be special events held all year long. Y e s , Harley- Davidson has reached another milestone! There will be plenty of time to make your way to the city the Motor Company calls home. If you can make it to Milwaukee, make it a point to visit the Harley Museum and take a tour of the powerplant facility while you’re in town as well. You won’t be disappointed. For 2013, Harley has come up with a few custom 110th anniversary motorcycles that will celebrate their achievement. These custom models will be made in a very limited number and will include: the Super Glide Custom, Fat Boy Low, Road King, Electric Glide Ultra Limited, Heritage Softail and a 1200 Custom. Each of these special editions will be painted with a custom color. They will also be fitted with a gas tank medallion that is cast from solid bronze and plated with black nickel. Each anniversary medallion is then distressed to highlight the bronze. They will also have a uniquely numbered badge that will indicate its authenticity as well as its production number. Saddle inserts and engine elements covers will also be unique to the anniversary motorcycles. This year, the restyled, strippeddown Dyna Street Bob will be offered for the low starting price of 12,999.00. This is a fantastic price for a Big Twin. The Street Bob will also be offered with the new optional H-D 1 Factory Customization with 2,000 different variations to choose from. These options will give you the opportunity to customize your bike directly from the 48 November ‘12 Cycle Source factory, and the best part is that you can have this personalized motorcycle in as little as four weeks. Options include more paint offerings, different wheel options, seats, handlebars and a choice between forward or mid foot controls. This customization program will help keep the cost down of personalizing your new motorcycle. Another new element is the cool, bold, metal flake finishes that are being offered this year. Known by Harley as Hard Candy Custom, these paint finishes are beautiful and take a trip back in time. With sixteen color choices in all, three will be able to be ordered straight from the factory on select models while the other twotones can be purchased as paint sets through the Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories Color Shop.

This year’s Custom Vehicle Operation (C.V.O.) motorcycle program will include: the Road Glide Custom, Ultra Classic, and Road King; all are members of the touring family. Also included will be a new hot-rod Softail model, the Breakout. We will be doing a test ride article on this new Softail in an upcoming issue. After a close-up look at the 2013 family of motorcycles, it is clear to me that the Motor Company is connecting with their customers by offering more choices and keeping the price points in control. They are paying particular attention to the details from the design stage to the finished product. The paint looks like glass, and between the options that come on the bikes to their accessory books, Harley makes it possible to create your dream motorcycle without having to look anywhere else. Congratulations on 110 years of manufacturing one of America’s most iconic products. And most of all, thanks for the ride!
