2013 Final – J&P Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show

Ian Armstrong drove down from the Motor City to finish out the 2013 J&P Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show and came away the big winner of the show with a 1st place in FreeStyle and a 1st place in MOD Harley.

Garwood Customs won Performance Custom and Patrick McLafferty of Wide Open Motosports won MOD Street.
Marilyn Stemp of IronWorks Magazine provided the Editor’s Choice Award to Ian Armstrong with AR Baggers for his 2002 Harley-Davidson Road Glide.

FreeStyle
Ian Armstrong brought in Little Fella, an ’06 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic / Raod Glide conversion, which features Sik Pipes, Power Commander and Andrews Cams. Fitted with AR Baggers complete air ride, monster 26” front and 18” rear. Complete hand made body panels front to rear, custom front fairing, one piece bags with side panels. Electronics include a 7” LCD display with navigation with 1600 watt stereo.

MOD Harley
Modified Harley was won by AR Baggers with a 2002 Harley-Davidson Road Glide that features all the goodies including a Big Bore Kit, full air ride, pm wheels, 8 speaker system, touch screen and (2) 1200 watt amps.

Retro MOD
Jeremy Cupp of LC Fabrication won the Retro MOD class with the Birmingham Bee-Liner. It features a rebuilt 1967 BSA a65 Thunderbolt with a Hunt magneto, mikuni carb, with a custom girder frontend, dirtbike wheels, raked and stretched hardtailed 72 Triumph “wet” frame. Fuel is in the backbone and fed to the carb by a vacuum operated fuel pump.

Performance Custom
Garwood Customs built Alex Quinones’ Old Skool, a 2006 Suzuki GSX-R 1000, to the J&P Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show in Charlotte. It features Single Sided 300 Wide Tire Kit by C and S Custom, Performance machine wheels, Air FX Air Ride System and paint by Team Neyon. In addition, the bike runs CTS Race Front Rotor, Performance Machine Rear Braking System, Custom Spike Fork caps and yoke cap and a Custom Leather Seat.

MOD Street
Patrick McLafferty of Wide Open Motosports rolled Redemption into the buzz saw of Gary Nelson and the Brew Dude and came up aces with the win in MOD Street. The bike is a dialy rider and features internally lowered front forks, custom made suspension linkage in rear, single side swingarm with 0 strech.

2013 Chicago Awards Ceremony: Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show

Patrick McLafferty won the Show Dog Award sponsored by Rocking K Custom Leather for his promotion at the show. Mike Davis of Speedworx won the People’s Choice Award with Rings, a stretched 2009 Honda CBR named Red Pearl.

HelmetLok sponsors the top three bikes in each class and provides the HelmetLok and cable for each.

Ultimate Builder awarded over $100,000 in cash and prizes over the 13 event series. The top 3  big money winners during the season are:

  2. GIO – $8,500
  3. Ian Armstrong – $6,000

Since last show of the series is in NASCAR country, it wasn’t a surprise to see Gary Nelson, former Crew Chief and NASCAR’s Car of Tomorrow project manager at the show. The surprise was the sano 1976 Honda CB750 that features a hidden oil tank under the gas tank, hidden battery under the seat, mono shock and custom built swing arm finished off with a Honda Elsinore-styled paint scheme.

The 2012 US Champion, Jeremy Cupp, made a return visit to the Ultimate Builder with the Birmingham Bee-Liner, a 1967 BSA a65 Thunderbolt. It stood out in a sea of outstanding Retro MOD motorcycles and took home the gold.
