Senators debate bill repealing motorcycle safety course reimbursement

Motorcycle safety education providers would no longer receive state reimbursement under a bill debated on general file Jan. 24. The Motorcycle Safety Education Fund currently receives $3 from the Highway Trust Fund for every motorcycle registered in the state and $3.50 from the Department of Motor Vehicles Cash Fund for each motorcycle operator’s license issued during the previous year. The fund is used to reimburse motorcycle safety course providers up to $75 for each student who successfully completes a course.

Sent in from Rogue Leather vests, chaps and blue jeans replaced standard business attire up and down the Capitol hallways Monday as motorcyclists from across Texas gathered to speak with their representatives about legislation affecting their freedoms and lifestyle. At the top of most motorcyclists’ agendas: helmet laws, profiling and a proposal to institute roadblocks to catch drunk drivers. Tom Cross hoped the group’s numbers — and perhaps their atypical Capitol attire — would bring their concerns to legislators’ attention. “These are our regular clothes for a lot of us,” the Orange-area resident said. “I wear these to church.”

During the Easyriders show at the Los Angeles Convention Center yesterday spectators got to witness history in the making. The well known Mongols and Hell Angels met and broke bread during the event. Everyone couldn’t believe their eyes and were glad to see both groups heading to the right direction. This is just a stepping stone but here at Cycle Source, we are hoping that there is a great outcome equally . General James Amos, 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Brings Milestone Package to Afghanistan

Operation Gratitude today revealed that the organization’s 600,000th Care Package, containing the keys to a Victory Vegas 8-Ball Motorcycle, was personally delivered on Christmas Day by Marine Corps Commandant, General James Amos, to a Lance Corporal deployed in the Sangin District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The Lance Corporal, whose name will be revealed upon his return to the United States, is an infantryman with the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines (3/5), also known as the "Dark Horse Battalion."
