Heads up…….Myrtle Beach passes rally ordinances and Lid Law

myrtlebeachbikeweek11

All 15 of Myrtle Beach’s proposed bike rally options have become law, though with some modifications.
At this morning’s city council workshop, rally proponents raised objections to some details and some entire proposals, like the one that requires riders to wear helmets and protective eyewear within city limits.
Of all the proposals designed to curtail the May motorcycle rallies that draw more than 300,000 to the Grand Strand each year, the helmet law is the least popular among rally supporters.
They say wearing a helmet is actually unsafe and that the city’s rule making noncompliance an infraction instead of a crime still supersedes state law.

Issue 22… and In The Wind art show

Dice cover 22

The story goes something like this. Back in the late ‘60s there was this chopper builder down in Venice, CA called Phil Collins ( not the singer ) and he was making these front ends combining the rebound qualities of a 35mm Sportster with the strength of the big twin Springer. They were either called a ‘Sporinger’ or a Springster’ depending on who you talk to down here in the local bars, not the Yuppy poncey places which Venice is full of these days but proper drinking holes. One clear sunny August day in ’68, Phil ( not the singer ) took his straight leg Panhead chopper, complete with the new forks, for a shakedown ride alongside the ocean on the Pacific Coast Highway. The legend is that somewhere near Neptunes ( sic ) he lost control of the bike and plunged straight into the water. Phil and his bike were never seen again.

Issue 22, brilliant. Out now.

Saxon Motorcycle Company Unveils the Henchman in the US

hennchman

Saxon Motorcycle Company is proud to announce the release of its newest model, the Henchman. This new addition offers Saxon’s signature styling, a factory warranty and an impressive parts list all at a reasonable price point.
The Henchman upholds Saxon’s commitment to affordability, reliability and comfort while offering some customizable features to help buyers personalize their rides. With 35 degrees of rake and 1 ¾" stretch, this 510 pound rigid is fairly lightweight, but the four-piston front and two-piston rear Brembo brakes provide extra stopping power to complement the 1500 cc S&S 96 engine. The bike features a Primo Rivera six-speed transmission with left-side chain drive and can be customized with either a telescopic or springer front end. Customers can choose from several paint colors, but the Henchman’s simple paint job, 200 mm rear tire, sculpted leather spring seat and custom handlebars work together to give this chopper/bobber a ride that is nimble and has a stripped down style.
